Kindergarten and 1st Grade Presentations:
Overview:
Mike knows how to entertain as well as inform K-1 kids. Each of Mike’s presentations is designed to delight as well as engage the children and the emphasis is on fun. A typical presentation to this age group lasts between 35 and 45 minutes. Although each presentation is unique, here’s the basic content of Mike’s presentation to K - 1 kids:
Introduction (3 - 5 minutes):

Book Talk and Cartooning (25 - 35 minutes):

Kids read aloud with Mike as he reads from some of his emergent reader books. |

Mike talks about the various media he uses to illustrate books. |

Kids watch as Mike creates a torn paper character. |
|
|
Kids draw along as Mike shows them how to draw a sheep (there is a sheep in one of his books). |

Mike talks with kids about emotions and demonstrates how faces change with different feelings. |
|
|
Kids draw along as Mike shows them how to draw emotions on faces. |

|
Mike talks about the difference between fiction and non-fiction books. |
|
|
Kids draw along as Mike shows them how to draw a dinosaur. |

Mike reads from his book, WEATHER WHYS and talks about the North and South poles. |

2nd and 3rd Grade Presentations
Overview:
Children in 2nd and 3rd Grades will enjoy the fun facts and the wordplay in Mike’s science and humor books, and they’ll love learning how to write and draw their own original cartoons. A typical presentation to this age group lasts approximately 45 minutes. Although each presentation is unique, here’s the basic content of Mike’s presentation:

4th and 5th Grade Presentations
Overview:
Mike’s presentations to this age group involve a bit more writing and independent creative thinking than the presentations for younger children. The cartoons they draw will also be more "advanced." A typical presentation to this age group lasts 45 minutes. Although each presentation is unique, the basic content includes the following:
Introduction (3 - 5 minutes):

Mike discusses Leonardo daVinci and shows kids the "math" (proportions) of drawing human faces. |

Kids draw along as Mike shows them how to draw things from unusual angles. |
